The Strength of a Hydroswing Hydraulic Door

Hurricane season is here. Hydroswing’s phone lines are lighting up as customers from severe weather zones begin to prepare. Customer after customer tells the tale of lesser doors on their own hangars and structures that turn to rubble, while neighbors with a Hydroswing® Door stood steady and strong. We’ve heard reports of bits and pieces of bifold doors on the ground at the end of the storm, while the Hydroswing® on the property remained virtually unaffected.

According to a report on risks of hurricane damage by Johns Hopkins University, “In a hurricane, gusts of wind can be expected to be 25% to 50% higher than the sustained wind velocity. Thus, a hurricane with sustained winds of 150 mph may produce gusts exceeding 200 mph. The effect of a storm's wind is best evaluated in terms of the pressure it exerts. Pressure varies with the square of the velocity, meaning that pressures increases very rapidly with increasing wind velocity. For example, a 100 mph wind exerts a pressure of about 40 pounds per square foot on a flat surface, while a 190 mph wind would exert a force of 122 pounds per square foot. As an example, in a 100 mph wind, a 4x8 sheet of plywood would be thrown by up to 1100 pounds of force.”

Building owners need to be ready, and with a Hydroswing® you’ve got a better chance to protect your investments. Today, with budgets tight, it’s more important than ever to take every precaution to make your building structurally sound. Statistics prove approximately 80% of hurricane wind damage initiates with wind entry through the largest opening of a structure. This means that securing that opening greatly increases the chances of the survival of that structure – and the protection of its contents. According to the same study, “Garage door failure was a significant cause of damage during past hurricanes. The most common failure was deflection of the garage door from wind pressure until the tracks rotated and the door rollers separated from the tracks. Loss of doors resulted in envelope breach and a sudden increase in internal pressure.” This same theory will hold true for your hangar or warehouse door that is on rollers. With no rollers to consider, and single panel construction, the Hydroswing® is a must in hard weather and wind locations.

After witnessing Hydroswing superiority (up to 200 MPH wind loading) for themselves, many weather-wary Gulf Coast residents are trading up to Hydroswing as well. If you’re an existing Hydroswing customer, you can rest easy knowing that when this severe weather season is over, you and your investments will remain safe and protected behind the sturdiest, most secure door system on the market... and if you’re not... make the move to replace now, or you may regret it later.

Looking to Replace your Hangar Door?

Hydroswing® takes pride in meeting the needs of aircraft owners and facilities worldwide. Whether it’s new build hangars and the retrofit market, or replacing yesteryear’s aging number of unserviceable hangar doors, Hydroswing® brings the best to the marketplace.

The main issues facing airports and airfield owners, operators and tenants are the cost of hangar door replacement, return on investment, increase in door size, overall efficiency and the time it takes to install. The question Hydroswing® hears most is “do I have to replace my building or over build its door end structure?” The answer is NO. In most instances, you don’t have to scrap your building, just because your old door system is beyond economic service.

The Hydroswing® single panel hydraulic door easily replaces bifold, bottom rolling, concertina, stacking, barn, fabric, sectional/sliding and large roller shutter doors, in aviation facilities, private hangars, helicopter hangars and MRO facilities around the globe. There is minimal load and reaction levels to existing structures because Hydrowswing® is pre hung on in its own frame. This allows for a simple removal of old door and in many cases, no additional structural work. Our customers quickly see the benefits of “going big,” increasing the height to the eaves, and increasing the size of the hangar to the maximum of the building frame width or section.

If you’re in aviation, you’ve seen bad doors. Broken (and dangerous) bi-folds, torn fabric sliders, self-built disasters, and inefficient rollers and stackers can cost more than they’re worth to repair. Chains, pulleys, straps and too many parts can invariably lead to a break down and possibly an accident where someone may be injured or even killed. So isn’t it time for a change?

Cost effective, safe, and accommodating in sizes up to 150’(45.0 m) wide  X 40’(12.0 m) high, our hydraulic door is being retrofitted in commercial aviation facilities, private airplane and helicopter hangars alike. Simplicity, strength, ease of use and reduction in moving parts, plus use of cladding (which makes the door match the thermal characteristics of the building) are among the top reasons customers are making the switch to Hydroswing®. The sophistication of single panel hydraulic doors is now part of everyday door use across the aviation sector.

The Advantages of Leasing an Original Hydroswing® Hydraulic Door

The outstanding engineering, space saving quality, ease-of-use and increased productivity delivered by the Hydroswing® is now available through our new “game changing” door leasing program.  This is an industry first for hydraulic doors, and Hydroswing® is proud to once again be in front of the pack.

So why should you lease a hydraulic door?

• Technology is moving and changing. Outdated bi-fold, slider and roller doors are quickly becoming obsolete (and in some cases, dangerous.) Even if you don’t have the cash on hand, you can still have the original and best hydraulic door on the market.
• If the door is used as a part of your business, there is the potential to enjoy a tax break because the lease payments will be fully deductible.
• The Hydroswing® door lease requires ZERO down.
• Low payments! This will free up your cash to invest back into your business.
• Total lease payments are almost always less than the original cash price of the equipment.
• Whether you choose a short-term lease (two to three years) or a long-   term lease (four to five years), your payment will only be for the selected term.
• At the end of the lease and you’ll have a $1.00 buyout or FMV (Fair Market Value) buy out and the warranty that you had in place will assure your Hydroswing® door unit is as good as the day you first installed it and opened it.

Pre hung, pre assembled and ready to install, when fitted to existing buildings, the Hydroswing® single panel hydraulic door adds strength and valuable return to buildings which might have been previously seen as past their useful life. In the event you build new to replace the old, unbolt the Hydroswing® and simply refit your Hydroswing® to your new building, (or Hydroswing® can do this for you).

For ZERO down and payments starting as low as $49.99 per week, you truly can have it all: Single panel door simplicity, powerful and smooth hydraulic rams, solid tube steel construction, pre hung, no top or bottom rails, no sectional seals, no wasted wall or outside area conflicts, push button operation, exceptionally low operating and service costs.

Introducing Hydroswing® Leasing -The Best and Original Hydroswing® Hydraulic Door Can now be Leased as Equipment

It’s no secret that equipment leasing is a leading choice for the agriculture, aviation and industrial sectors.  With equipment being the mainstay, owners have looked to leasing to help the cash flow crunch while allowing them to quickly acquire the latest technology. Since 1960 private fixed investment in equipment increased from $29.7 billion to almost $1 trillion in 2012. In 2013, that number continued to rise. Nonetheless, the economy has made it difficult for businesses to part with cash, even though they are in need of new equipment. Leasing solves that problem. And now Hydroswing® enters the arena and expands the possibilities across all sectors. A door is no longer a door. Thanks to Hydroswing® Leasing, any hydraulic door we manufacture can be considered a piece of working capital equipment.

In agriculture alone, leasing of equipment exceeds $6 billion in annual volume in the United States. In aviation, approximately 30% of the world’s aircraft are leased, and that number continues to increase. Leasing works and Hydroswing® is on board. Hydroswing® Leasing is the first program of its kind to offer hydraulic doors as equipment: No money down, low payments ($49.99 per week) and a $1.00 buyout at the end of the lease. There will always be more old buildings than new, and with a Hydroswing® lease, it’s easier than ever to replace your obsolete door system and enjoy the efficiency and advanced technology of the original Hydroswing® hydraulic door.

Leasing a door is not as complicated as it seems. It’s a painless process that preserve your line of credit, let you keep your cash flow in place and can immediately add value to your business.  In addition, lessees can take an immediate write-off of dollars spent rather than waiting for equipment or storage facilities to depreciate over several years. You’ll also have the option of deduction 100% of your lease payment as a business expense. To make the package complete, a Hydroswing® lease allows for opportunity to eliminate or minimize shipping and install costs. It’s a “win win” all the way around.

Hydroswing® Leasing is a game changer for industry. Hydroswing® has over 7,000 doors in use and is being manufactured in ISO 9001 approved global manufacturing plants worldwide. Hydraulics are the most effective door choice. The advantages: Less than 70% of the moving parts of the bifold door and 50% less moving parts than sectional, bottom rolling, or top hung doors with 95% less maintenance costs. The Hydroswing® easily retro fits to replace the bi-fold, bottom rolling, top hung, sectional or fabric doors, and is ideal for new builds, steel, post and frame or block structure. Now everything is possible with a Hydroswing® door.

The Bifold Hangar Door… Inferior by design

Technology has moved on from wires, cables, pulleys and straps. The world is becoming simpler and safer. Hydraulic doors will soon be the only logical choice for not only aviation, but for agriculture, architecture and mining sectors as well. From a safety perspective, by its very nature, the bifold door is outdated and potentially dangerous.  We recently completed an installation in the U.K. that demonstrates exactly why bifolds are an endangered species.

We were called us about replacing two doors at the Brighton Airport (Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex, United Kingdom). The existing bifold doors were only three years old and one (at the Real Flying Company) had fallen down completely as a result of wire cable failure, the other (at Advance Helicopters) was an accident waiting to happen. Having narrowly missed the operator on site, the owner wanted to quickly dispose of a potentially dangerous situation and start new with a stronger, simpler, safer hydraulic Hydroswing® door solution. The operationally unsound bifolds were products of Express Hi Fold Ltd. (a known knock off of an American product by a similar name) and rely on wire cables connected to a chain driven winding axle drum.  With such a high number of moving parts, the risk of failure increases exponentially.

Hydroswing® was an easy choice for Apollo. Our hydraulic Hydroswing® door is a single panel, has greater strength through design and steel size, 70% less moving parts than the substandard bifold, and is now manufactured in several ISO 9001 facilities around the world, including Great Britain. The door dimensions at Shoreham 60’(18.28m) x 17’(5.18m) and 55’(16.76m) x 17’(5.18m) respectively, were quickly retrofitted with Hydroswing® which in turn immediately provided an additional three feet of tail clearance. Our zero drop two-way Hydrolok™ system also assures the door will never fall should there ever be a loss of hydraulic power.

The bifolds that were torn out have no frame so the retro fit was simple. (It usually only takes two days to fit any opening.) The Hydroswing® is built to fit easily pre hung in its own frame directly into the rough opening and welded straight to the header and uprights of the building. The vastly superior Hydroswing® also provides peace of mind when it’s open, closed or moving: No wires. No straps. No chains with axles or cogs. Most bifolds require supplementary contraptions to hold them in place while closed. Not the Hydroswing® - with almost 100% seal-ability, the door remains tight. These two Hydroswing® doors at Shoreham also incorporate our patented Bow Truss Technology, providing leading edge strength and aesthetics worthy of an architectural install. This special truss also gives “at a glance” certainty of the origin and integrity of this latest generation Hydroswing® hangar door system.

The current trend shows more and more aviation facilities stepping away from the old and now outdated bifolds in favor of the safety, simplicity and effectiveness of Hydroswing®. (Note: A number of the well known Bifold manufacturers are trying to copy and emulate the Hydroswing® design. Keep in mind if it’s not from Hydroswing®… it’s not a Hydroswing®.) We proudly boast over 7,000 Hydroswing® in service and a growing number of bifold replacements and retrofit orders are coming in on a regular basis. Hydroswing® continues to change the general aviation hangar door sector for good. The Hydroswing® hangar door systems are the right choice:

  • 70% less moving parts
  • 100% improved seal-ability
  • Almost Zero Maintenance
  • Zero Drop Safety with Hydrolok™
  • 1m (3’.0) recovered clear height
  • 100% better looking
  • Adds value to the building
  • 90 MPH wind rating standard
  • Full drawing pack per door
  • Patented Bow Truss Technology
  • 2 day retro fit on most buildings

The Original Hydroswing - Still the First, Still the Best

"Original" is defined as "present or existing from the beginning; first or earliest." and "something serving as a model or basis for imitations or copies." In the world of hydraulic doors, original can simply be defined as "Hydroswing." Since its creation in 1996, the Hydroswing® has been the benchmark for single panel hydraulic door systems. With necessity being the mother of invention, it was only a matter of time before bifold and roller doors would be eclipsed by hydraulics, a more efficient option for aviation, agriculture and architecture sectors. Hydroswing® brought the revolution and continues to be the leader.

Being the original hydraulic door manufacturer, we have always had an outstanding product. Nonetheless, we had a few stumbling blocks in our early production structure and knew we had to make some changes and come to our buyers more cost effectively. Hydroswing® is now being manufactured in ISO 9001 approved global manufacturing plants allowing for a 25+% price cost reduction in the final product. We are hitting the market again with the original high quality hydraulic doors, but at a bifold price, square foot for square foot. We are changing the dynamics of the marketplace.

Hydroswing® door copies, usually offered by bifold manufacturers, are popping up regularly. But, keep in mind that if you're not buying directly from Hydroswing®, it's NOT a Hydroswing®. Currently, we are the only distributor of the original Hydroswing®, and anything else is just a knock-off. Look for our "H" logo... if you don't find it, it's not ours.

We'll custom manufacture a door in any size as large as 40' tall and 150' wide. Our customers are choosing the Hydroswing® door for security, wind load strength, and overall building use and efficiency.

More Originals to Come...

The fact that the Hydroswing® Door is pre hung in its very own load bearing frame, allowed for an evolution. Following many requests for the growing use of ISO shipping containers for architecture, military and commercial industries, the patent pending "plug and play" door for ISO Containers emerged. The ISO DOOR™ simply locks onto the side, ends or links between side or ends of the the ISO shipping container utilizing the ISO "tandelock" quick attach. This is the "missing link" for container shelter doors for mining and military operations as well as many other industries. It also allows instant re-purposing of the old shipping container and effective building of shipping container shelters of any size. With Hydroswing® providing a superior door solution, there are now endless possibilities for mobile shelters for UAV's, mining, exploration equipment and disaster relief operations.

The original Hydroswing® product now serves many sectors and sizes. A growing number of door problems are solved with simple, efficient and strong product. The design team is now located in various countries, all with valuable input to the Hydroswing® brand. Building on 10+ years of design and engineering expertise from the USA, Hydroswing® continues to bring the hydraulic overhead to the next generation.

Bye, Bye Bi-fold… Hello Hydraulic Door

We live in a culture of technology. Things change in the blink of an eye. Everything becomes more efficient, either sooner or later. Cassettes became CDs, VHS videos became DVDs, so it only makes sense that hangar doors, agriculture doors and architectural doors should follow suit… so in a world of “what’s the best way to build,” it won’t be long before bi-fold doors will take a backseat to hydraulic doors.  In the long run, simpler is always better, and when it comes to doors, less is more.

The bi-fold door filled a need when it was first introduced to the market. It was the only game in town and seemed the logical choice for anyone looking for a door for their facility or hangar. There weren’t other options available so everyone got acclimated to using them. Well, times have changed and technology has improved, and now the bi-fold doesn’t seem to make much sense.  It’s time to say “Bye Bye to the Bi-fold!”  And here’s why:

Top 5 Disadvantages of Bi-fold Doors:
1. Lots of moving parts, which means a lot of maintenance.

2. The pulleys and drive chains are exposed to the stress of constant movement and run the risk of slipping out or breaking down.

3. The awkward fold, with its pulleys and straps, are cumbersome and quickly becoming a thing of the past.

4. One of the main concerns for both pilots and farmers is being able to utilize a maximum amount of overhead space in their hangar or barn. Bi-fold doors will require at least 24” of clearance just to sit in the rough opening, thereby increasing the height of any new builds or add-ons, usually all the around the hangar height.

5. They are limited in their capacity to carry cladding or finishes with little overall structural integrity.

Enter hydraulic doors… the stronger, safer, one-piece system that boasts 70% less moving parts. And, now that companies like Hydroswing® Hydraulic Doors are matching the bi-fold pricing dollar for dollar on hydraulic hangar doors, agricultural doors and architectural doors, why would you want to deal with tracks, casters and pulleys? Say hello to hydraulic doors! And here’s why:

Top 5 Advantages of Hydraulic Doors:
1. Deliver max opening width and height while reducing your overall build costs without

2. 70% less moving parts than a bi-fold door and 50% less moving parts than sectional, bottom rolling, roller, top hung, fabric or standard sectional overhead.

3. When considering servicing and cost of ownership, Hydroswing® Hydraulic Door is the best value door product on the market with the lowest in life service cost of any large door competitor

4. When building new, hydraulic doors require less building height.

5. Price. Price. Price. Dollar for dollar, the Hydroswing® Hydraulic Door is just as cost effective as a bi-fold.

So step into the future and say “bye bye to bi-fold” and hello to hydraulic. Replace your old bi-fold and upgrade to the superior technology of a Hydroswing® Hydraulic Door. It won’t be long before progress is no longer a choice, but a necessity.
