Post frame construction has its deep roots in agriculture. This kind of building came to prominence in the 1930s. Poles (usually telephone poles which in turn lead to the name “pole barn”) were sunk into the ground and steel roofing and siding was put into place to complete the structure. This was a short list for foundational material and it simplified the barn construction process. The telephone poles were later replaced by chemically treated sawn posts, then metal plates were introduced that connected the trusses and roof spans began to increase. Later, laminated posts made the scene and all the buildings were able to go taller as well. Today, post frame construction is still extremely efficient and is used worldwide for an array of projects, and remains the leading choice for agricultural and storage buildings.

There was a time when oxen and horses were used for power, basic wooden plows tilled the fields, all sowing was done by hand, cultivating was done by hoe, and hay and grain was cut with sickles. By 1837, John Deere and Leonard Andrus began manufacturing steel plows and a practical threshing machine was patented. The first gasoline tractor was built by John Froelich 1892 and the first commercially successful (gasoline-powered) general purpose tractor in was in production.
