Hydroswing – The Industrial Door Solution

8. December 2015 23:25 by Hydroswing in Commercial Doors, General, Industrial Doors

The world’s most reliable hangar door is now the world’s most reliable industrial door system. Ensuring your facility has the right door is as important to your building as it is to your bottom line. It’s about strength, security, ease-of-use, quality, sealability, and the simplicity of retrofitting. It’s about a sleek looking, affordable door of the highest quality steel to keep your building safe and your in-life service costs low. It’s about Hydroswing®.

Before the option of the Hydroswing, industrial openings were restricted by size. Large structures had to rely on steel rolling doors or sectional applications. Not anymore…The option of a single panel hydraulic door has changed everything. The massive opening capacity, accommodating in sizes up to 150’(45.0 m) wide  X 40’(12.0 m) high, teamed with expanded vertical clearance and an almost air-tight seal, the Hydroswing® essentially creates a movable wall. This means enhanced building efficiency and reduces costs across the board.

Hydroswing® was called to task to provide a solution for Airbus in England. They were looking for a specific product for the Main Wing paint booth for their A380 Super Jumbo and wanted something that would be seated well enough to the floor that it would have the efficiency of a wall but the capabilities of door. We were able to manufacture a 57’ x 28’ (18m x 8.5m) door that immediately matched their needs and retro fit their existing Durr Paint Booth in only five days. The sealabilty of the door was so tight their reduction in electricity on extraction fan speed alone generated a return on investment (ROI) in six months.

The Hydroswing® hydraulic door system is now being retrofitted in industrial and commercial facilities around the world. The huge reduction in moving parts as well as customized cladding (making the door match the thermal characteristics of the building) are among the top reasons customers are choosing Hydroswing®. The sophistication of a single panel hydraulic door system is now part of everyday door use across all industries. The total cost of ownership (TCO) beats rollers, sectionals and all other high part count doors available today.

Hydroswing® is overcoming space and size hurdles in the commercial and industrial sectors at a rapid pace. New projects in the works include a “door within a door” allowing for a smaller single panel installation within the confines of a 150’ (45m) main door allowing a wide array of multi-use possibilities. Hydroswing® is single handedly changing the way people use doors in commercial and industrial settings. Our ability to design and create solutions for large industrial doors and large commercial doors will leave a lasting impact on productivity, efficiency and cost effectiveness.

Hydroswing’s Big Doors – Manufacturing Masterpieces

Until Hydroswing, it was hardly conceivable to think of a hydraulic door larger than 100’ (30m), but times they are a changing!  Hydroswing is ramping up the pace and manufacturing and selling big door after big door… up to 150’ (45m) wide and 40’ (12m) tall! Hydroswing® has broken the size barrier and is charging into the large commercial door and industrial door market.

These gigantic manufacturing masterpieces are creating a revolution in terms of construction possibilities. Total simplicity, sheer strength, ease of use and reduction in moving parts, plus the use of specialty cladding (which makes the door match the thermal characteristics of the building) are among the top reasons customers are looking to Hydroswing® for their big door needs. The sophistication of large single panel hydraulic doors is now part of everyday door use across every sector. In addition to new doors on new buildings, we are also retrofitting gigantic openings and moving walls. With Hydroswing®, very large walls can be converted into useful and cost effective hydraulic doors. With almost 100% seal-ability, this conversion will forever change the face of commercial and industrial structures around the world.

Before the option of Hydroswing’s large and extra-large singe panel hydraulic doors, openings were restricted. Structures with massive needs had to rely on steel rolling doors or sectional applications. The option of a single panel hydraulic door changed everything. The huge opening capacity, teamed with expanded vertical clearance and an almost air-tight seal, the door essentially becomes another wall. In turn, the enhanced building efficiency reduces both costs across the board.

Hydroswing® is synonymous with quality. From the beginning, our standards have been the highest in the industry.  All Hydroswing® doors are fabricated in ISO 9001 facilities that adhere to the American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1 code requirements for welding of structural steel. Unlike other manufacturers, we understand the importance of working within specific codes and with vendors who boast an ISO certification.

How’s it Hanging... Hydroswing’s Detailed Mounting Protocols Show How it’s Done

Simple, strong, secure… that’s our motto at Hydroswing®. Whether it’s retrofit or a new build, we are dedicated to having the easiest and most efficient process in the industry. If you need a hydraulic door, not only will we customize it for your space, we make sure you know how it works. Our “Mounting Protocols” demonstrate to all door owners the intricate details of how the door can be hung. We offer illustrations of everything from product attachments and positions of the door for installation, to the anatomy of the Hydroswing® door and full descriptions of different types of headers.

Customization is one of our most important selling points so it’s critical that our customers know our “attach angle” can be made to mount our door to metal girders, concrete, block or wood buildings. Then the door will be bolted or welded in place per the protocols. (We don’t supply the headers or door pillars, but we do survey large doors and will engineer flanges to brace the existing door pillars and the Hydroswing® door jamb.)

Also key for most Hydroswing® door owners is “how” the door will be mounted. Our protocols detail three ways: Inside or Flush Mounting (where the door inside the building header and jamb making it flush with the face of the building), Outside Mounting (which is common in existing buildings and the door will fit against the face of the building) and Rear Mounting (this would connect the door to the rear of your building).

Whatever your questions, we have the answers and our downloadable protocols will guide the way. Simplicity, strength, ease of use and reduction in moving parts, plus use of cladding (which makes the door match the thermal characteristics of the building) are among the top reasons customers are making the switch to Hydroswing®. The sophistication of our single panel hydraulic door system is now part of everyday door use for facilities large and small across the U.S. and around the world. The Hydroswing® single panel door system is like no other. Through the implementation of the Hydroswing® we lead to new efficiencies in building and wall designs. Remember, if it doesn’t come from Hydroswing®, it’s not a Hydroswing®.

All Hydro and Half the Swing - Hydroswing Launches a NEW Dual Panel Hydraulic Door

The Hydroswing® Single Panel hydraulic door system is known worldwide for quality and strength. As an industry leader, Hydroswing listened to potential customers who didn't have the room for a “swing out” door system and designed the perfect alternative. Hydroswing has designed a multi-hydraulic Dual Panel door without dangerous cables and straps. Hydroswing® is proud to introduce the revolutionary, but simple, Hydroswing® Dual Panel Door System. “We designed this door primarily for the architectural market,” says Marshal Parker, owner of Hydroswing®. “Swing out space is a concern for some of our customers. For the aviation sector (because of the dynamics and layout of some hangars), it is important to save the space on the taxiway, even at the cost of a little headroom. With over 7,000 single panel door systems now in use around the world, the Dual Panel Hydraulic Door System is an option now as well,” says Parker.

This impressive new Dual Panel Hydraulic Door System has all the same Hydroswing® credentials, just half the swing out. All Hydroswing® are supplied “pre hung” in their own tube steel framework for ease of onsite assembly and installation. Like the Hydroswing® Single Panel hydraulic door system, the Dual Panel is supplied with touch-of-a-button opening and closing with excellent sealing and security (as it locks closed through the hydraulic system). Also like the Single Panel, the Hydroswing® Dual Panel Door System can be integrated or retrofitted to any existing building.

Both the Hydroswing® Single Panel and Dual Panel hydraulic door systems are useful for an increasingly robust architectural market. Hydroswing® is providing this solution in a horizontal format for several transport industry leaders via new HydroTop truck products (launching in the US in Fall/Winter 2015). With several ISO 9001 fabrication locations in USA, Mexico and Europe, Hydroswing® delivers the most innovative hydraulic Single Panel and Dual Panel doors and wall systems in the world for every use and every sector.

Remember... If it doesn't come from Hydroswing®... It's not a Hydroswing®.

Hydroswing Selected as the Provider of Hydraulic Doors for up to 200 Hangars at the San Diego Metropolitan Air Park (Brown Field)

Big News!  Hydroswing® North America, Inc., the world leader in single panel hydraulic door systems, is pleased to announce the company has been selected as the sole source of hangar doors for one of the most important aviation developments in the United States.

In 2013, the wheels went in motion when the San Diego City Council approved a redevelopment of Brown Field Municipal Airport in Otay Mesa, involving more than $1 billion in planned improvements over the next 20 years. Metropolitan Airpark, a four-phase commercial development, will cover 331 acres of the city-owned, 880-acre facility near the U.S.-Mexico border. This development is poised to become a major commercial hub for strategic business partnerships between the U.S. and Mexico.

Over the next five years, the San Diego Metropolitan Air Park (Brown Field) will see the development of up to 200 hangars and mixed use industrial structures. Use of the Hydroswing® brand at this magnitude will be a milestone, with hangar doors ranging from Boeing BBJ (737) sizes to general aviation T hangars. These aviation-related installations along side the industrial Hydroswing® door systems will showcase Hydroswing’s emerging product range aimed at the industrial and commercial sectors.

Developer, Richard Sax, is no stranger to the large aviation door market and cites Hydroswing’s overwhelming appeal and efficiency, plus the much lower in-life servicing costs, as reasons for this significant selection. Hydroswing® fabricates its steel in Mexico to ISO 9001 and ASW D1.1 standards and acquires all UL and CE approved Hydraulics from its agile supply chain partner in Wisconsin. Sax states, “Hydroswing understands the importance of an international strategic business model. Their ability to work across the border drives the demand for the use of Hydroswing® doors at the facilities at Brown Field.” South-of-the-border manufacturing and the agile supply chain structure is improving business for countless American manufacturers across all sectors.

Marshal Parker of Hydroswing® comments, “We are excited to be the supply chain partner to this headline aviation project. For Hydroswing®, it represents a highly visible statement that one airport can experience the efficiency of our hangar door systems with exceptionally low service costs, high degrees of primary security, and an unprecedented life span of the product.” The opportunity for Hydroswing® has also allowed the developers to enhance overall building efficiencies and LEED ratings, highlighting the impact an efficient low part count large door system (with its almost 100% “sealability”) makes to these large modern structures.

Once again, Hydroswing® leads the way!

ISO 9001/ AWS D1.1 – Because Quality Matters

Hydroswing® is synonymous with quality. From the beginning, our standards have been the highest in the industry.  All Hydroswing® doors are fabricated in ISO 9001 facilities that adhere to the American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1 code requirements for welding of structural steel. Unlike other manufacturers, we understand the importance of working within specific codes and with vendors who boast an ISO certification. ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is the largest developer in the world of voluntary International Standards.  An independent and non-governmental membership organization at work in 165 countries, ISO began in London in 1946 with a goal to “facilitate the international coordination and unification of industrial standards.” Today, ISO has published over 19,500 International Standards covering almost all of manufacturing and technology.

ISO 9001 is part of the ISO 9000 “family of quality management systems standards” designed to help manufacturers meet statutory and regulatory requirements related to a product.  A third party certification provides an “independent confirmation” that companies meet the requirements of ISO 9001. So what does the mean for Hydroswing® customers? It means we are confident in our selected vendors and we pass that quality to our end users.  The ISO 9001 facilities we work with have Quality Management Systems (QMS) in place and are stringently audited for welding and quality assurance. The hydraulic components are sourced centrally in the United States for further continuous quality and supply chain integrity.

At Hydroswing®, fabrication quality is just one area we set ourselves apart from others. Our welding is always to AWS D1.1 code which covers the requirements for “any type of welded structure made from the commonly used carbon and low-alloy constructional steels.”  Another example of our quality systems is our shot blasting pre-paint. This ensures the perfect base for the application of Carboline carboguard 890, a highly chemical-resistant epoxy mastic coating that adds 50% greater corrosion resistance than any other hydraulic door offered in this category. Shot blasting allows an added layer of inspection of the steel for rare imperfections which remain unseen in non shot blasted door systems.

The quality control doesn't stop there!  Our patented Hydroswing® bow truss (US D584,831S) is unique in the industry and use only premium hydraulic lines, hoses and connectors. To make our standards complete, we also use only UL certified controls motors and pumps.  It’s all about quality. It’s Hydroswing. For more information about ISO and ISO 9001 certification, visit www.iso.org

The History of Hydraulics – Still Going Strong

The word “hydraulic” comes from the Greek ‘hydra’ which refers to water and ‘aulos’ which means pipes.  Science historians believe that hydraulics (in an extremely basic form) originated in the Greek civilization two millennia ago.  The mathematician, Archimedes, reasoned that “a floating or immersed body must be acted upon an upward force equal to weight of the liquid that it displaces.”

As time passed, science improved, technology was beginning to take shape and ways to effectively use hydraulic energy were being discovered.  It all began with how water physically behaved at rest or in motion, and evolved from how to generate power with water at the source, to how to generate power at different points of use. Soon, the concept of transmitting power by putting fluids under pressure changed the face of engineering.

In the late 17th century, the study of using oil in hydraulics started to get some legs. French mathematician, Blaise Pascal, created at law in fluid mechanics stating “that pressure exerted anywhere in a confined incompressible fluid is transmitted equally in all directions throughout the fluid such that the pressure variations (initial differences) remain the same.” This became known as Pascal’s Law and created the fundamentals for the science of hydraulics.

Enter English inventor Joseph Bramah. Based on Pascal’s Law, Bramah invented the hydraulic press. His understanding of the relationship between force, pressure and area forever changed engineering and industry.  Bramah demonstrated that pressure throughout a closed system is constant and he was granted a patent for his product in 1795. By the time Britain’s industrial revolution hit in 1850, hydraulics were being used in a multitude of industries.  The twentieth century saw fluid power through hydraulic replacing electrical systems and the rest, as they say, is history.

Greenham Common used hydraulic doors to seal in safety and seal out nuclear blast. Opened in 1942, it was used by both the Royal Air Force in WW II and most famously by the US Air Force as a major Cold War Nuclear Strike Base. From late 1967, Greenham Common was used for NATO operations in deterrence of the Eastern Block countries. The missile bunkers seen here were designed with their hydraulic doors to withstand the local airbursting of a point strike on the West’s front line deterrent from the East, showing the unique ability of the Hydraulic door system to carry strength and integrity to such a level… and they are still in existence today for all to see as part of the Cold War history.

Today, Hydroswing® is proud to be the pioneer in hydraulic doors. Our superior technology has allowed us to engineer single panel hydraulic doors that replace doors with mechanical and electrical drives.  We have taken hydraulic door systems to the next level and are changing the world one door at time. Don’t you want to be a part of our door revolution?

Introducing Hydraulic Doors for ISO Shipping Containers – A New Revolution in Hydraulics

ISO containers (also known as intermodal containers) are used to store and move materials and products efficiently and securely in the global containerized intermodal freight transport system. "Intermodal" indicates that the container can be moved from one mode of transport to another (from ship, to rail, to truck) without unloading and reloading the contents of the container. Lengths of containers vary from 8 to 56 feet (2.438 to 17.069 m) and heights from 8 feet (2.438 m) to 9 feet 6 inches (2.896 m). There are about 17 million intermodal containers in the world of varying types to suit different cargoes.

In recent years, ISO containers have started being used for countless applications outside of the shipping world. From architectural and commercial projects to mining and military facilities, a container that has “open sides” can make for endless usage possibilities. The fact that the Hydroswing® hydraulic door is pre hung in its very own load bearing frame, allowed the evolution and growing use of ISO shipping containers. Meet the ISO DOOR™ by Hydroswing®.  The Patent Pending system is built around our renowned single panel Hydroswing® hydraulic door. Sized accordingly, a hydraulic door can be fitted to the ISO shipping container on either of the sides, ends or top and can also be used for "cross-dooring" between containers for shelter buildings.

The plug-and -play ISO DOOR™ simply locks on to side, ends (or links between sides or ends) of the ISO shipping container, utilizing the ISO tandemlok quick attach. This is the “missing link” for container shelter doors for mining and military operations as well as many other industries. It also allows instant re-purposing of the old shipping container. With the same single panel strength the Hydroswing® Door offers, the ISO DOOR™ made a quantum leap into ISO containers.

The use of the ISO DOOR™ for UAV shelters, helicopter shelters, forward operating bases, checkpoints, encampments, military compounds, service areas, engine run up bays, MT service areas and many other modular ISO container shelter uses, can finally bring “closure" to the "open end" of the container shelter. Aviation facilities can quickly create shared wall, multi unit hangars at an affordable price.

Other industries interested in this unique door system are disaster relief, mining and exploration, specialized shelter manufacturers, special forces, oil tanker/vessel protection services and most obviously, shipping companies for ease of loading/unloading product into containers. The ISO DOOR™ system is undergoing review for full ISO certification so as to be able to enter the ISO shipping process and enable integration for containers fitted or modified to be shipped simply as a normal container… this is a logistical planners dream.

Hydroswing® breaks the barriers once again…

Looking to Replace your Hangar Door?

15. July 2014 11:25 by Hydroswing in Farm Doors, Hangar Doors

Hydroswing® takes pride in meeting the needs of aircraft owners and facilities worldwide. Whether it’s new build hangars and the retrofit market, or replacing yesteryear’s aging number of unserviceable hangar doors, Hydroswing® brings the best to the marketplace.

The main issues facing airports and airfield owners, operators and tenants are the cost of hangar door replacement, return on investment, increase in door size, overall efficiency and the time it takes to install. The question Hydroswing® hears most is “do I have to replace my building or over build its door end structure?” The answer is NO. In most instances, you don’t have to scrap your building, just because your old door system is beyond economic service.

The Hydroswing® single panel hydraulic door easily replaces bifold, bottom rolling, concertina, stacking, barn, fabric, sectional/sliding and large roller shutter doors, in aviation facilities, private hangars, helicopter hangars and MRO facilities around the globe. There is minimal load and reaction levels to existing structures because Hydrowswing® is pre hung on in its own frame. This allows for a simple removal of old door and in many cases, no additional structural work. Our customers quickly see the benefits of “going big,” increasing the height to the eaves, and increasing the size of the hangar to the maximum of the building frame width or section.

If you’re in aviation, you’ve seen bad doors. Broken (and dangerous) bi-folds, torn fabric sliders, self-built disasters, and inefficient rollers and stackers can cost more than they’re worth to repair. Chains, pulleys, straps and too many parts can invariably lead to a break down and possibly an accident where someone may be injured or even killed. So isn’t it time for a change?

Cost effective, safe, and accommodating in sizes up to 150’(45.0 m) wide  X 40’(12.0 m) high, our hydraulic door is being retrofitted in commercial aviation facilities, private airplane and helicopter hangars alike. Simplicity, strength, ease of use and reduction in moving parts, plus use of cladding (which makes the door match the thermal characteristics of the building) are among the top reasons customers are making the switch to Hydroswing®. The sophistication of single panel hydraulic doors is now part of everyday door use across the aviation sector.

The original Hydroswing® hydraulic door is the ideal replacement for any kind of hangar door on any kind of structure. You can get the door you want now for ZERO DOWN. Call us today!
