Total Cost of Ownership – A Hydroswing Door is the Best Long Term Investment for your Hangar

24. November 2015 10:00 by Hydroswing in Aviation , Commercial Doors, Hangar Doors

It’s time to think differently about the cost of your building, and the cost of your door. Statistics prove that for every $1 spent on purchasing for efficiency, the return will be $6 in energy savings — that equates to a 600% return on investment. Hydroswing® is only door investment that will bring that will make that fact a reality.

So do you think a bifold is a “good value” for you money? WRONG. In reality, the bifold has the highest total cost of ownership of all hangar doors.  With a large number of moving parts, including straps, cables, motors, wires, limit switches, locks, chain, sprockets, carrier bearings, roller wheels, and more, there is a litany of service items.  Bottom line: the bifold is ONLY less expensive on the front end, but it’s a maintenance hog that requires cost upkeep, and ongoing monitoring of the door and the building. The main problem is that cables stretch over time, and straps can over torque if limit switches fail. Without quarterly servicing, high cycling doors will have a very short life span.

The total cost of ownership (TCO) of your hangar or large door system should be evaluated in terms of the following: Total Cost New + Annual Service Costs + Life Span.

The cost of purchasing a bifold is just the “tip of the iceberg” in terms of expense.
An expense that is regularly overlooked is the impact cost of having to build a higher building to accommodate the “wedge” in the clear opening of the hangar to provide the required clear height. This bifold adjustment is (in many cases) 2 to 5 feet of extra all around linear height of building, not just at the door. Often builders need to uplift the whole linear height of the entire hangar.  Your value decision needs careful consideration. General contractors and building companies are becoming aware of the inefficiencies and cost of the bifold and the door is being used less and less in their competitive bidding process.

When calculating your TCO, choosing a hydraulic single panel door system reduces overall building height, maximizes opening height and width, reduces part counts by up to 95%, reduces servicing costs to almost zero, and delivers a door system which will last the full life of the building. It’s all about quality up front and life and durability of your door. To make a sound investment, avoid a non-engineered, unproven cable replacement offers from bifold manufacturers, call Hydroswing® to retrofit your hangar.  Don’t put a short term fix on a long term problem. The Hydroswing® hydraulic single panel door system is the most cost effective purchase for your hangar and the most bang for your buck on your TCO.  Get it right the first time. Be the King ... Fit a Hydroswing®… for life!

 Remember… If it doesn’t come from Hydroswing® — It’s not a Hydroswing®!
